On today’s top 10, we look at some legends who returned to their beloved clubs, with Gareth Bale’s surprise transfer to Tottenham this summer the pick of the bunch. Bale had endured a nightmare final two years at Real Madrid – despite helping the Spanish giants to La Liga and Champions League victories, he never lived up to his billing as the next Cristiano Ronaldo and fell out of favour with Zinedine Zidane. Linking up with Jose Mourinho in the Premier League could be exactly what he needs!
We also look at Thierry Henry’s brief return to Arsenal in 2012, made five years after he left the Gunners to work under Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola at Barcelona; Wayne Rooney’s one season spell with Everton following his trophy-laden career at Man United, as well as Arjen Robben, who having won all there was to win at Bayern Munich, came out of retirement to play for boyhood club Groningen in 2020.
Also included here is Santi Cazorla, who made one of the most unlikely returns from injury to play some of the best football of his career back at Villarreal, and Fernando Torres, who made an emotional comeback for Atletico Madrid, having been lost at Chelsea and AC Milan following his glory years at Liverpool.
